Improved Nissan Navara gains three star rating
Euro NCAP recently released a struck-through one star rating for the 08 model year Navara. The poor rating was due in part to the delayed firing of the airbag in the frontal impact test. Nissan reacted swiftly and developed new airbag software to ensure better occupant protection. Production Navaras are now equipped with the improved software and an extensive Service Campaign is underway to upgrade owners’ vehicles . Nissan also asked Euro NCAP to assess the modified vehicle to ensure that its performance had improved. Euro NCAP’s new assessment reveals that Nissan have effectively addressed the airbag malfunction, removing the high risk of life-threatening injuries seen in the earlier test. Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP says ‘Nissan have acted responsibly and promptly in response to our findings. Euro NCAP hopes that by releasing this new result, it will speed up the Service Campaign and ensure that all Navaras are upgraded to the higher safety specification.’ In these new tests, the Child Occupant Protection rating has also been improved to four stars due to the additional consumer information Nissan has made available. Isuzu are currently investigating the safety issues revealed in Euro NCAP’s tests of their vehicle the D-Max/Rodeo. The result released today is for a vehicle in the Pickup category. The ratings for this re-assessment can be seen in more detail at www.euroncap.com. Euro NCAP’s test results are released on a quarterly basis.
